Recently, we visited once again the Institution St.Petka, taken care by the Monastery in Izvor. This time we were accompanied by the Elder Borivoje Borac and 4 young missionaries and volunteers from LDS Charities.
We have been celebrating for years our National Day, St. John the Baptist, at the National Theater in Belgrade by organizing an event of cultural diplomacy. On that occasion, prominent artists from abroad would enter the Opera stage with the performance of one of the famous Italian operas. This year, due to Covid-19 pandemic, we have not been able to continue our tradition. So we tried to find the way – coherent with our mission – to celebrate the almost one thousand years of the history of our Order.
Seregno (Italy) – Izvor (Serbia) – Taiwan October 17
For many years now, the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Belgrade has been offering support to the Institution St.Petka, taken care by the Monastery in Izvor, while receiving their numerous WISHES. This brilliant Center hosts 92 girls with physical and mental disabilities.
In the city of Kraljevo, a Center – SOS Children’s Village – that houses 77 children up to 18 years of age has been operating successfully from 2004. SOS Children’s Village represents unique concept in Serbia when it comes to assisting children who cannot live with their biological parents for various reasons.
As part of the “Make a WISH to the Sovereign Order of Malta” Project, sometimes it is very delicate to assess the requests received at the Embassy. In the last example, the choice and the decision to intervene were rapid because of the difficult medical case that could no longer be postponed.
13th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean was held in Belgrade on February 21 and 22, with perfect hospitality of the Serbian Parliament.
During the works, inaugurated by the Serbian Foreign Minister H.E. Ivica Dacic, Ambassador Alberto di Luca ( permanent observer at PAM) held a speech during the debate on immigration and human rights. This is the synthesis of his speech:
Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Serbia Alberto di Luca had a meeting with the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zoran Vujic.
During the cordial meeting, the excellent state of relations between Serbia and Sovereign Order of Malta has been mutually underlined, also indicated by the numerous humanitarian and social activities promoted by the Embassy in Belgrade.
In the exemplary synthesis of tender humanity and impeccable professionalism in the Institution St. Petka in Izvor, near Paracin, it happens frequently that some needs emerge to which the “system” seems to fail to provide necessary solutions in a timely manner.
