1113/2013: inauguration in the Seat of the Serbian Parliament of the Photographic Exhibition on the 900 years of the Papal Bull which established the sovereignty of the Order.

On the occasion of National Day of St. John the Baptist, at the Seat of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the photographic exhibition “900 years at the service to the poor and the sick” was opened in Belgrade.

The event, jointly organized by the Ambassador of the Order in Serbia, Alberto di Luca, and the President of the Serbian Parliament, Nebojsa Stefanovic, was attended by 350 guests including many deputies with the Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship Serbia-Order of Malta, Mr. Vladimir Marinkovic, the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Oliver Antic, the Director of the Department of “Neighbouring Countries” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Milisav Pajic and its predecessor, Amb. Danilo Vucetic; members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Ministries; several members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Belgrade and among them the Ambassadors of Italy, France, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Mexico, Lebanon, Slovenia, Morocco and Angola; the Counsellors of the Embassies of The Holly See and the Congo; Amb. Vladeta Jankovic, former Ambassador of Serbia to the Sovereign Order and the Holy See; the President of the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Delta Generali Insurance, Andrea Simoncelli; representatives of the academic world, cultural, artistic and sport, medias and organizations engaged in humanitarian, social and hospital activities.

Our National Day in the National Assembly of Serbia

This year, the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Belgrade, is organizing its National Day in the National Assembly of Serbia. This will be the occasion to inaugurate the photographic exhibition “Sovereign Order of Malta – 900 years at the service of the poor and the sick.

State Funeral at Royal Mausoleum in Oplenac

With a solemn religious ceremony at the Royal Mausoleum in Oplenac in Serbia, officiated by the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, H.H. Irinej, and concelebrated by all Metropolitans and Religious Leaders, took place the state funerals, on May 26th, of the late King of Yugoslavia, Peter II, his spouse Queen Alexandra, the Queen Mother Mary and the brother Prince Andrej, whose remains rested in exile.
The ceremony, broadcast live by national TV and accompanied by ringing bells of churches in the country, was held in the presence of the Head of the Royal Family Prince Alexander II and his Family, the President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić, the Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, the President of United Nations General Assembly Vuk Jeremic, and other members of the government and institutional authorities.
The Patriarch Irenej, Prince Alexander II, the President and the Prime Minister spoke at St. George’s Church in Olpenac, in front of thousands of Serbian citizens from every part of the country. The speeches commemorating the deceased and the Sovereign Dynasty Karađorđević, architect of modern Serbia , whose memory is still alive and loved across the nation.
Among representatives of foreign Royal Families there were Their Majesties King Simeon and Queen Margarita of the Bulgarians, Their Majesties King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie of the Hellenes, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Princess Margarita and Prince Radu of Romania, members of other foreign Royal Families, and representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Belgrade.
The Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Fra ‘Matthew Festing, had designated his representative, the Order’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Camillo Zuccoli, accompanied by the Order’s Ambassador to Serbia, Alberto di Luca.

News concerning the diplomatic structure of the Embassy in Belgrade

As part of the usual alternations of functions in the diplomatic service, should be noted – as deliberated by the Sovereign Council of the Order of Malta on May 1st and 2nd, 2013 – the termination of Mr. Ferdinando Bozzo’s engagement as First Counselor of the Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the Republic of Serbia. We thank Mr. Bozzo for his generous support offered during the duration of his appointment to the activities of the Embassy.

The Sovereign Council appointed Dr. Carlo Buora First Counsellor of this diplomatic mission. Dr. Buora is an experienced manager who has served in the past, top management positions in companies such as Pirelli and Telecom. Currently he is President of IEO and of “his” cardiological Hospital, the “Monzino” in Milan.

To the newly appointed First Counsellor Buora, we wish a successful work at the new position, which he leads, from the first day, with respect for the values ​​and purposes of the Sovereign Order of Malta.

The Counsellor of the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Belgrade, Valter Catoni, sent to H.E. Mons. Stanislav Hocevar, Archbishop of Belgrade, ten Personal Laptops to be entrusted to young Serbian students, interested in expanding their horizons of knowledge of Computer Science, but unable to approach it for economic reasons.

The Ambassadors of smiles in Belgrade

Belgrade calls and Milan answers. It is scientifically recognized that a smile is a therapy. With this certainty, the volunteers of the Veronica Sacchi Milan Onlus  have applied the Clown Doctors therapy throughout Italy and worldwide. Only one fundamental link was missing to make possible a period of presence in Belgrade, alongside the Association Nurdor. The Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Belgrade, successfully found a generous donor in Milan who was ready to finance all costs of travel and accommodations for the boy-clowns. The Chief Executive Officer of Alessandro Rosso Group, Loredana Vavassori, immediately reacted: she offered to “Veronica Sacchi” tens of unicycles, which were sold at a market. And so, with the raised funds, it was possible to put smiles on the faces of children hospitalized in the oncology department of the hospital in Belgrade. These activities took place in the days in which works began on the construction of the new Parental House with the funds of € 100,000 raises also in Milan, by the Sovereign Order of Malta.

Meeting among the serbian "Malteška Dobrotvorna" and the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta

The Ambassador Alberto di Luca went to Zrenjanin to meet with the vertices of the The Relief Organisation of the Order of Malta that operates from Zrenjanin in northern Serbia, where he was warmly welcomed by President Padre Tibor KONCZ, the pastor of Kikindaenjanin and the Secretary General Mrs. Hajnal STOCKER KECSKEMET. Also present His Excellency the Bishop of Zrenjanin Mons. Ladislav Nemet.
On that occasion, the Ambassador Alberto di Luca has warmly complimented the President and all of those who cooperated with him, for the long and exemplary commitment inspired by values that guided, for over 900 years, the Sovereign Order.
The long desired signature of the bilateral humanitarian cooperation between the Order and Serbia, currently in the final stages of definition between the respective Ministries, will represent a new and more favorable legal framework for the further expansion of significant beneficial activities that the Association realized in Zrenjanin with the generous support of Malteser International and important donations, organized by the Order, from Austria, Germany and Hungary. Indeed, under the proposed Agreement, standards will be provided for simplification of procedures and for exemption of customs charges which will facilitate better development of these humanitarian activities.

The President of the Serbian Parliament, Hon. Nebojsa Stefanovic, received Amb. Alberto di Luca. With great attention the President Stefanović heard a summary of the history and initiatives of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Serbia and around the world. This interest will be shared with those who want to visit the Photo Exhibition to celebrate the 900 Anniversary of the “Pie Postulatio Voluntatis”, organized by the Sovereign Order of Malta and hosted by the Serbian Parliament, in Belgrade, on a date to be defined.
